We’re Hiring an Audience and Engagement Editor

Sarasota Magazine is looking for an outstanding reporter and editor to grow our audience through our newsletters and social media channels, while also contributing to the magazine’s website and print publications. As a key member of the editorial staff, the Audience and Engagement Editor will help shape the tone and content of our coverage by working closely with the Editor in Chief to advance our mission to delight, inform and challenge readers with every story.

A successful candidate should possess a strong understanding of editorial style and grammar, an eye for presenting stories visually and in multimedia formats, a passion for connecting with the Sarasota community and the magazine’s readership, and an ability to analyze readership data to make informed recommendations about the magazine’s editorial direction and engagement strategy. This person is curious and enthusiastic, obsessed with social media trends, an excellent written and verbal communicator, and comfortable working as part of a team and independently.

Essential Duties

Write multiple brief blog posts each day about topics important to Sarasota’s business and philanthropic community.

Create and send multiple daily email newsletters.

Post multiple times throughout the week on the magazine’s social media channels.

Work with the magazine’s art department to create multimedia elements for social media channels.

Monitor social media for emerging trends and make recommendations for how the magazine can capitalize on them.

Compile and analyze newsletter performance and social media data and make recommendations about how to grow the magazine’s reach and exposure.

Write other stories as needed, filling holes in the magazine’s current editorial strategy, as well as meeting emerging needs.

Be a strong advocate for diversity both in the workplace and in the magazine’s coverage.

Solve problems independently, with a strong news judgment rooted in the principles of journalism.

Attend magazine-related events to capture images and video.

Helpful Qualifications

Previous success as a reporter or editor for at least three years.

Knowledge of Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok and LinkedIn, as well as HubSpot or other email newsletter programs.

Excellent command of grammar, punctuation and linguistic style.

Outstanding attention to detail.

Knowledge of and commitment to journalistic ethics.

Comfort working on stories about a wide variety of topics.

Ability to find or identify strong visual elements that enhance stories.

Relentless curiosity.

Excellent communication skills.

Kindness.
