PINC Experience returning to Sarasota in December
PINC, standing for People, Ideas, Nature, Creativity, will be held at the Sarasota Opera House.
Looking for what’s being billed as “a bubble bath for the brain”? The PINC Experience announced the eclectic conference will be returning to Sarasota in December, along with the first of its many speakers.
PINC — standing for People, Ideas, Nature, Creativity — is an all-day event that is “not your typical conference,” bringing together international storytellers from all walks of life in a TED Talk format designed to inspire creativity and innovation. The Sarasota Opera House will once again house the event taking place Dec. 12 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., providing a full 12 hour experience including catered meals.
PINC is presented by DreamLarge, a local non-profit dedicated to enriching the community, and Ringling College of Art and Design. The sixth annual conference promises another year of diverse and eccentric orators, teasing the full lineup by revealing two of the 2019 speakers.
“PINC opens our community to a unique opportunity, bringing people together for one day and inspiring them with a range of extraordinary experiences,” said Anand Pallegar, founder of DreamLarge, in a statement. “With a vision for a brighter future for Sarasota and beyond, reinvigorating our personal and collective creativity is a pillar that catalyzes DreamLarge’s initiatives as thoughtfully curated, handcrafted experiences. At PINC, we gather some of the world’s most forward-thinking innovators and creative thinkers to enliven and motivate us to view our world and our community in unexpected ways.”
The 5th PINC Experience was held Thursday December 6th, 2018 at the Sarasota Opera House. PINC, which stands for People, Ideas, Nature and Creativity, presented a myriad of speakers to the stage to share their perspective on connecting global thoughts with our local community.
To get a grasp of the wide range of people brought together from across the globe for the experience, a shortlist of former PINC speakers include: a sword swallower, the first female NFL coach, a puppet designer and performer, a human trafficking survivor, an extreme balloon sculptor and the inventor of a paper created to help save bees,
The first featured speakers announced are Robert Szucs, a Hungarian digital cartographer, and Gelareh Kiazand, an Iranian filmmaker whose credits include producer on “Rock the Kasbah” starring Bill Murray. Szucs, the founder of Grasshopper Geography, blends his GIS expertise with an artistic eye to create psychedelic maps visualizing the geographic data of land masses. Some of his works include a map of all the interlocking river basins across the U.S. and a map of the vast forest coverage of Russia. He achieved fame through selling prints of his maps, and now travels the world using GIS to map natural resources.
Kiazand is a Iranian-born filmmaker based between Tehran and Toronto. For six years after graduation from college she worked in the Iranian film industry as a director of photography for feature films and documentaries. She also freelanced for VICE on women’s issues and health in Afghanistan. When working with Paramount Studios, she led the second camera unit for the film “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot,” making her Iran’s first female director of photography for a cinematic feature film post-revolution.
